jacques is an average sized muscular young man. he almost always carried around a sword on his right hip. he has three identical god earrings on his left earlobe. kemp wears a lightweight silk tweed frock coat, but is happy to take it off when the need arises, and normally keeps a black bandanna tied around his left arm. he ties the bandanna around his head when he is fighting seriously against an opponent. his shirt varies from time to time, but he consistently wears black trousers tucked inside black boots. jacques is most commonly seen wearing a plain white shirt with three buttons at the collar. his is body is covered with scars from his many battles, most notably a massive scar stretching from his left shoulder to his right hip. his other remarkable features are his dreadlocked black hair and piercing steel grey eyes.

jacques is usually carefree and happy-go-lucky with great ambition. he is caring and generally good hearted. due to his average height and build, he relies more on intelligence, agility, and quick wit to protect himself, rather than physical strength. he prides himself on being a moralistic man who adheres to his own code of honor which he will very really if ever deviate from.

jacques' comes from a long line of sword fighters. the only son of an only son he is the last of his family line that he is aware of. his mother died in childbirth so he didn't know her, and his father never mentioned her. jacques and his father never really got on to well and they haven't seen each other in years.

since the day he was born, jacques has been trained in the art of sword fighting by his father in order to continue the legacy of the kemp family. jacques was also instilled with the his fathers code of honor. because of his fathers training methods he came to resent the man, but his sense of loyalty and honor forced him to stay with the man. he was also a childhood rival and friend with a lady named Razel, never quite managing to beat her, and aspired to be as strong as she was. he made a promise with her that someday one of them would become the world's greatest swordsman. She died soon after in an accident. he continues to hold himself to this vow and began to travel the world to test himself against anyone and everyone who considered them self a swords person.
